After working in real estate for the last 20 years, Megan Thompson says she’s “done a little bit of everything.”
She started in mortgages, transitioned into a role as a financial analyst, reviewing real estate portfolios at a local credit union, then moved into loan signing and escrows. Megan’s most recent role is working as a licensed realtor. In 2019, she joined the Premier Valley Realty team.
Megan’s philosophy is simple:
“Find the people you can do your best for and then do your best.”
Here’s more about Megan…
After working on the financial side for so long, why did you move into sales?
“It was the last piece of the puzzle.”
A friend suggested Megan start selling real estate, so she went for it. She felt it was the next logical step since she has experience working in essentially every piece of a real estate transaction. She was glad she did.
“It’s by far the most fun and rewarding for me.”
What’s the most rewarding aspect?
“The day people get their keys and they’ve accomplished, probably, the largest purchase of their lifetime.”
The close of escrow is Megan’s favorite day. For her, closing day signifies that the job is complete and her clients accomplished their goal.
“It’s the satisfaction of a job well done,” Megan says with a smile.
What’s your specialty?
“I’m good at picking up on things that people like and reading between the lines.”
Megan enjoys taking time with her clients to ensure that where they’re going is where they want to be. She likes to be their guide; asking questions to get the whole picture so that clients can explore potential dreams.
When presenting homes to buyers, Megan covers all the bases. She shows clients the properties they ask to see but also takes them to areas they haven’t considered. She believes this helps them hone in on what their true likes and dislikes are.
“Sometimes it takes a lot of time — but in the end there are no regrets.”
What is the most unique property you’ve worked with?
“It was [local artist, architect, educator] Gay McCline’s house.”
Designed and built in 1970 by Robin Gay McCline, he occupied the home with his family for almost 50 years. This was the first time his one-of-a-kind home was on the market. Megan didn’t take that for granted.
She felt privileged at the opportunity to share its history and highlight the influence McCline had on the Fresno art community.
“It was a huge compliment to get the referral in the first place, and then to be able to market it the way that we did, was just a treat.”

What do you love most about Fresno?
“Being able to go to a farmers market and get something that was just picked from a field yesterday. We’re so fortunate to have access to that.”
Megan was born and raised in Fresno, growing up in a family of farmers. From a young age, she experienced the joys of fresh cantaloupe and corn, and continues her love of the abundance of farm fresh food available here. She doesn’t take for granted that Fresno is the world’s greatest area of agriculture and she appreciates having quick access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
“Our food is better because of where we’re located.”
What’s the one thing most people don’t know about you?
“My favorite thing to do is to be off the grid.”
Although you can find daily postings about family, gardening or local events on Megan’s Instagram account, she tries to take time to disconnect. A tradition started by her grandfather, she enjoys a family camping trip every summer. They spend time in nature without access to daily luxuries. No cell coverage; just time spent embracing the outdoors.
“You’re completely out of touch with everything but who is with you at that time. You’re able to reconnect and enjoy the nature that’s available to us, essentially, for free.”
Megan likes to slow down and become 100% present — camping helps her do that.
Any advice for new realtors?
“Knowing that you’re not going to be the right fit for everyone and that everyone’s not going to be the right fit for you.”
She feels that if you work hard for your clients, you can build your business through referrals. Megan believes that you have to find out who you are, what your brand is going to be, and stay true to that.
